How to Turn Your Failures into Success

Back in 2017 I listened to a podcast that had David Goggins on. For those of you that don't know who he is; Goggins is a former marine and by far one of the toughest people out there. If you don't follow him on social media, I highly recommend you do.

One of the concepts he uses for mental toughness is the cookie jar. The cookie jar is where you store every triumph you have experienced. Think about something you have overcome or accomplished that means something to you and put it in the jar.

The purpose of this is for when you face a challenge or feel like something can't be done. Mentally you might want to quit or give up. This is when you go to the jar. Remind yourself of everything you've already accomplished. Every challenge you have already overcome. It can be easy to think something is too hard or it can't be done. It can be easy to forget everything you've already done. Use this as a tool to keep going.

Anything worth having takes time and consistent effort. Remind yourself of your 'why' on a regular basis. It doesn't matter if you are an athlete, coach, businessman, or a student; there will be times you want to throw in the towel. If your purpose is strong enough, you can and will get through the challenges.

Use the cookie jar as an extra spark when you are head on with your challenge.

Most of my content is focused on the training and programing aspect, but without a doubt the mental side is what separates people. I don't think it is talked about enough. Let this be the start of an ongoing conversation towards making you a complete player and person.
